This is an approximately 8-kilometer-long scenic road stretching from Imahama in Hodatsushimizu Town, Hakui District, Ishikawa Prefecture, to Chirihama Town in Hakui City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is widely known as one of the few roads in Japan—and the only one—where ordinary cars and buses can drive right along the water’s edge on the sandy beach. Kenroku-en is a renowned garden that preserves the characteristics of the Edo-period strolling forest-and-spring-style garden to this day; along with Kairaku-en in Mito and Koraku-en in Okayama, it is counted among Japan’s Three Great Gardens. As a symbol of the castle town of Kanazawa, it stands facing Kenroku-en Garden. It is a castle gate with an irimoya-style roof, and its name derives from its location facing Ishikawa District.
